Five Things Every Contractor Website Needs
Published on: Tuesday, Jun 23, 2026 By VoltSites
Most contractor websites look fine at a glance — logo, a few photos, a phone number. But “fine” does not win jobs. When a homeowner is comparing three landscapers or two HVAC companies, small details decide who gets the call.
Here are five things every contractor website needs to actually generate leads.
1. A clear value proposition above the fold
Within three seconds, a visitor should know what you do, where you serve, and why they should trust you. Avoid vague headlines like “Quality Service Since 1998.” Instead, lead with something specific: “Licensed Plumbing & Drain Cleaning in Greater Austin” or “Weekly Lawn Care for Busy Homeowners in Round Rock.”
2. Click-to-call and a simple contact path
On mobile — where most local searches happen — your phone number should be one tap away. A contact form is fine as a secondary option, but do not bury your number or make people hunt for it. The fastest path to a lead is often a phone call.
3. Service pages, not just a services list
A bullet list of “Plumbing, Drains, Water Heaters” is not enough. Each major service deserves its own page with enough detail to rank in search and enough substance to build trust. Describe the work, mention common situations, and include a clear call to action.
4. Proof you do good work
Photos of completed projects, customer reviews, licenses, and insurance info all reduce the anxiety of hiring a stranger to work on their home. Even a handful of before-and-after photos or three strong testimonials makes a difference.
5. Local signals throughout
Mention the cities and neighborhoods you serve — on your homepage, service pages, and contact page. This helps search engines connect you to local queries and reassures visitors that you actually work in their area.
A contractor website is not a one-time project. It should be maintained, updated with new work, and structured so search engines and customers both understand what you offer. Get these five elements right and you have a site that earns its keep.
